top five.

‎a renewed commitment to consistency. often at work with staff absences, the ebbs and flows of all the different students' moods, and my own humanity... getting everything done that way you want it to, down to the minute, is very difficult. i think i do a damn good job at providing as much consistency to my program as possible. as far as my personal life is concerned, i've been focusing on re-establishing healthy habits. grocery shopping regularly and eating out less. getting to bed earlier. waking up early. exercising (stretching!).

two students, two second graders, joshua and mathis. i asked both individually how their day was going and they both responded then asked how my day was going. reciprocation of genuine interest. very rare for elementary kids that young.

black history month. i've long despised the idea only one month, the shortest one, be dedicated to the contributions of so many great americans. that said, i've learned a lot of new things this month. watching pbs. reading. for me, black history is everyday. i'm planning on waiting until march to touch on some black history i think is important just so my students understand that they do not think of black history as something completely different than american history, so they think of it as learning that doesn't ever end especially not because the month with the fewest days is over.

the weekend. i put in work. really, though. it's saturday now and i'm thinking about work. ain't that some shit? that's how i was raised. to take care of business. i've been really thankful for the weekend, though. i try my best to enjoy it's freedom.

life. i love it.
